June 1, 2012 – John 13:21 – 14:14

2 traitors in the Passion.  We are all traitors to Christ, we all sin.  You have your choice when you look at the story.  You can go back to Christ or you can choose to go deeper into your sin until it overwhelms you and kills you, spiritually and sometimes physically (like Judas).

Thomas was not only doubting after the Resurrection, but even before.  14:5 “we do not know the way”.

“No one comes to the Father except through me.”  We hear a lot of criticism for saying that people that do not believe in Christ will not get into Heaven.  That is not technically Catholic teaching.  Catholic teaching is that living a life with Sacraments of the Catholic Church is the ordinary way to get to Heaven.  The Church leaves open the understanding that God is infinitely merciful and His ways are mysterious and those that are not Catholic or even Christian can get to Heaven through God’s great mercy.  The Catholic Church only says that the ordinary way, the way that we should do it, the way that we teach, is through the Sacraments given by Christ and made a available through the Church.  But according to Christ words, even those that have had no knowledge or relationship with Him on Earth, if they are going to Heaven, it is through Christ, in some way, shape or form.

14:11 - Christ offers the same path to the Apostles that He offered before.  If you do not believe in Me, believe in the works that I have done.

Numbers 10:33 – The Glory of God went ahead of Israel to prepare a place for them to rest.  Very similar to the language used by Christ in 14:3.
