Jan. 3, 2010 - Matthew 1

The genealogy is always a part that is genereally kind of glossed over, but to those first Jews reading Matthew's gospel, this would have meant a great deal to them. Imagine being a jew waiting for the Messiah. A Jew would have known their history enough to know what line the Messiah was to come from and what blood would run through his viens. This intro helps set that stage.

This story of Joseph is about the most we see of him. The quite strong protector. I always wish we knew more about what he did. As a fatherly guide, I wish there were more on him. Maybe that is the point. Protect your family, let them flourish, humbly stand in the background supporting them in what they do. That is not always and easy thing to do.
