Jan. 4, 2010 - Catechism Intro.
This comes in two parts.
APOSTOLIC LETTER LAETAMUR MAGNOPERE and
APOSTOLIC LETTER FIDEI DEPOSITUM
This is probably the longest reading we will have. It is pretty much a description of the process and readoning behind the writing of the Catechism that we will be going through. It was a long process that stemmed from Vatican II and the desire to further implement that.
Vatican II can be seen in a few differnt ways. For those of us that came after it, we don't really know any different. For those that have seen both the Church before and after, I am sure they have a better feeling for it. Many believe it made the Church more liberal. I don't think this is correct. I believe it may have been used by some as an excuse to lead the Church in a liberal way. They say it was going to take a long time to actually see results that were hoped for when it was implemented. Maybe some of the strong orthodox views that have started coming back is a sign of that. I don't know. What the Catechism does do is give its reader a very good sense of what the Church teaches and where it stands on almost any topic, why it stands there, and where those beliefs have their foundation.
