June 29, 2012 – John 20:11 – 20:31

I have always found it very realistic that Christ has to tell them twice “Peace Be With You.”  They are so overwhelmed with seeing Him and celebrating that they are probably pretty loud, jumping up and down and not actually paying attention to Jesus.  It reminds me of when, during a football game, after a great play, the crowd goes nuts.  If it is the offense that is the home team, the quarterback will come up to the line and wave his hands for the crowd to be quiet so they can run the next play.  Jesus knows and understands their excitement, but also knows that what He is about to say and give them is important and they need to be at peace to hear and accept it.

Real quickly, why would Christ give them the power to forgive and retain sins if they were not going to hear them from people.

I wonder if we are suppose to relate Christ coming these two times to the Mass and the Real Presence.  Christ is made present to them on Sunday.  Then, one week later, Christ is made present to them again.  Taking this in association with the Road to Emmaus and Christ being revealed in the breaking of bread, there are a lot of Eucharistic allusions in the Resurrection stories.

For those that say Sola Scriptura, how do you explain that the book says there were many more things that were not written down.
