June 19, 2012 – 1 Samuel 4

I don’t know if I have read a more pathetic way of dying in the Bible.  Eli, when finding out about the battle and the loss of the Ark, falls over in his chair and breaks his neck.  Let that be a lesson to all those that do not keep their chair on all 4 legs, myself included.  You wonder if the author of the book was having issues with people leaning back on their chairs and wanted to put something in there to bring that lesson home.

When reading the chapters before and the prophesy of what was going to happen to Eli’s family, you had to think he knew something bad was going to happen when both his sons and the Ark went out to a battle.

We also see the name Ichabod well before Ichabod Crane was ever invented.  The name, at least with these two, is not a name with a very good history.
