May 10, 2013 – Jeremiah 1

The beginning of this should be read before every TEC meeting and before talks that are given.  I know that many look to the reading in Timothy about not letting your age deter you, but I think this language is even more inspiring to a youth.

We see that Israel is looking to other gods for their aid.  God often talks about Israel’s infidelity.  I wrote recently that this could be about Israel seeking the assistance from other nations.  But there are many times when it is referring to Israel seeking the assistance of other gods.  Either way, the bigger point is that Israel did not rely on God and did not trust in His protection.  Whenever we do not trust in God we are cheating Him.  We may not think that it comes to infidelity, but what are you doing when you rely on something other than God.  Your obedience to Him is what holds your relationship together.  Without our obedience, we are disconnected.  We vow to follow Him and when we don’t, we are being unfaithful.
